I’m sure you have all heard some car media talking head say something like, “the F50's F1 derived engine is mounting directly to the chassis”.

Welp, here is what that looks like. It’s primarily 4 pins up top, one at the bottom that connects to a front engine brace/frame.

This is pretty cool. I think motorcycles have used the engine as a structural, chassis component, for some time as well.

I imagine having it mounted like that means a bit more vibration in the cabin (and a slightly higher weight) than if it had rubber mounts?

Actually, the whole point of using the engine as a stressed membe r of the chassis is to drop weight. But you are correct, the tradeoff is vibration is effective transmitted directly to your back.

Repair? It’s probably just an oil change.

My back could use the massage and heat on long drives.

And to be fair... it’s not like the typical owners of a car like that are going to drive it that often (or for long periods of time), so the extra vibration is probably moot.

Hot take: I like the F50 more than I like the F40.  Probably because I had a model of the F50 as a kid.

I figured those bolts would be bigger and symmetric.

Hot takes for free today : I never liked any Ferrari, except for the FF (?) which runs a V12, 4x4, looks somewhat anonymous and can haul 4 persons and their skis ...

Fight me, trolls and experts of the internetz !
